Hollywood Poker Abruptly Shut Down

June 27, 2012

Hollywood Poker recently shut down abruptly, diverting site visitors to RedKings. Hollywood poker is an Ongame Network room that put up a message reading ‘Hollywood Poker has stopped offering online poker’, which greeted and shocked visitors.

RedKings and Hollywood Poker are members of the Ongame Network, which is one of the busiest families of poker sites globally. The network has a weekly average of 1,640 real money players.

Details of the shut down

The message that stated Hollywood Poker’s termination of online poker services also informed visitors that their account balance had been transferred to RedKings, which they could access using the same nickname and password as they did before. There was no reason stated for the sudden cessation, but players could access their funds without any issues.

Apart from poker, players can indulge in a wide range of sports betting on RedKings and are being offered a generous new package. This package includes a $500 Welcome Bonus that will be paid to players in increments of $25. Players will also be able to enjoy all benefits from the RedKings VIP program, a 30% bonus awarded for better, once money is transferred for the first time, and a 15% Welcome Bonus on downloading CasinoRedKings software.

The  shutting down of Hollywood Poker’s services is referred to as abrupt  because just a few days ago, the site was updating its Twitter feeds and communicating with visitors. Some players seemed a little upset about this sudden closure. LTU Westham, poker player on the site, wrote that it is frustrating when sites close rooms without any prior notice.

Other players were of the opinion that at least Hollywood Poker gave players a chance to recoup their money and didn’t steal it.  A RedKings customer service representative refused to comment and told media persons that they were extremely busy.

Debates in the industry are surrounding probable financial issues as the reason for Hollywood Poker’s downfall. But on being asked, players have never had any issues in regards to payouts, which have been quick and efficient always.

About Hollywood Poker

Hollywood Poker was established in 2004. Club Hollywood Poker Loyalty Store was launched by the site in 2009. The main spokespersons for the site included James Woods, the actor and Vince Van Patten, the host for the World Poker Tour.

The site’s sister casino called Club Hollywood is supposedly under construction, although the website is fully functional. It will soon be shutting down as well, but just for three months. Players are greeted with the message that Club Hollywood is getting a ‘facelift’ when the site’s home page is loaded. As of now, these renovations are supposed to last until the 30th of September.

Hollywood Poker was an extremely fast growing poker room and was even backed by professionals like Patten and Woods. It even offered no-download versions for Linux and Mac users. The software was of superior quality and enhanced the game play.  The customer support offered at Hollywood Poker was efficient and friendly. The site had massive player traffic, especially during peak hours, half of which played for real money.

Eye Catching Events at the World Series of Poker

June 22, 2012

A number of events saw their final day recently at the WSOP, but poker enthusiasts need not be dismayed because two events are still running, namely Event #36 and Event #37, the $3,000 No-Limit Hold’em Shootout and the $2,500 Eight-Game Mix. Here are some updates on both these events.

Event # 36 updates

On the second day of the event 60 players competed against each other until only one table was left with 10 players, among who were Joe Tehan and Antonio Esfandiari. Athanasios Polychronopoulos was also among the 10. Justin Bonommo, Jean-Robert Bellance, Melanie Weisner and Christian Harder were among the players, who did not make it to the third day.

Weisner was defeated by Joe Tehan, and one of the first who finished off was Esfandiari.

Romanello is Chasing the Triple Crown: Roberto Romanello already boasts of the European Poker Tour and World Poker Tour title. He is now out to conquer a gold bracelet at the WSOP. He almost won the title last year at the WSOP Europe. He has made his way back to the top this year and only nine other players are in his way.

Esfandiari is working his magic: Antonia Esfandiari has conquered his first two tables and is making his final table appearance in this years’ WSOP. He won the first WSOP title way back in 2004 where he won a $200 Pot-Limit Hold’em event. The player has a little extra edge this year as he is in full form and is also on the top of three stacks.

Polychronopoulos is looking for gold: Athanasios Polychronopoulos will also appear at the final table. He is looking to win his second bracelet. He won the first last year while playing $1,500 No-Limit Hold’em. Polychronopoulos is believed to be one of the top young players of no-limit hold’em.

Tehan Chases Gold in Seventh Cash: Joe Tehan is one of the notable players who will appear at the final table. The player is witnessing a lot of good luck at this year’s WSOP. He still does not have a gold bracelet to his name, but will be looking to attain that honor this year.

Event #37 updates

The second day of the event started with 209 players, but the number was soon cut down to a mere 27. The figures are sufficient to explain how close the competition was at the event. Some of the players who emerged at the top include Jennifer Harman, Greg Mueller and Scott Seiver.

There are 27 players still remaining in the event, which almost guarantees that a fourth day will be needed for it to finish. Some of the contenders include Rep Porter, Jen Harman, Jerrod Ankenman, Scott Seiver, Freddy Deeb, Greg Mueller, Chris Viox, Matt Hawrilenko, David Baker, Steve Zolotow, Barry Greenstein, Jeff Madsen, Steve Sung, Kevin Calenzo, Cory Zeidman and Michael Chow. The player field is pretty unreal, although just one of these players can win the much desired gold bracelet.

Poker Tournaments in July 2012

June 20, 2012

Although the World Series of Poker tournament in Vegas is still on and cruising at full speed, some of the other locations are also gearing up for hosting full fledged poker events. The big buy-in events like the Bellagio Cup and the Hustler Casino’s event, the Grand Slam, are expected to create as much excitement as the WSOP is creating.

Those of you who want to experience the thrill of a poker tournament and yet, make it a little less risky, can opt for the smaller buy in events like Summer Poker Rodeo, Mid-States Poker Tour, etc. The poker tournaments mentioned below are classified based on the region where they will be held.

The West

You have quite a few events in Los Angles with the Stripes Series and Bike’s Stars. The Stripes Series runs till July 13, 2012. From July 13 to 28, you can be a part of Hustler Casino’s Grand Slam.

If you can go by the reviews, you can attend the Summer Poker Rodeo in the Wildhorse Resort and Casino from July 18 to July 22. This event has a very good reputation of being one of the more enjoyable and fanciful events.

Nevada

The World Series of Poker will continue till the middle of July in Las Vegas, Nevada. The main event starts only on July 7. Poker Series at the Golden Nugget, Binion’s and Wynn will end early on in July. The Caesars Mega Stack and the Venetian Deep Stack will go on till the end of June’s 2nd week.

If you are in the Grand Sierra in Reno, you can participate in the Summer Pot of Gold Series held between July 19 and 29. If you are hoping to bid big, then the Bellagio Cup (July 3 to 18) is the place you need to be in.

Central

From July 20 to August 4, the World Poker Open will be held in Tunica’s Gold Strike. There will be different levels of events held here, each having a different level of stake. You can pick the one which suits your preferences and capabilities.

The satellite events of Mid-States Poker Tour will be held in Iowa’s Meskwaki Resort and Casino. There is also a $300K guarantee event . Expect a crowd if you are planning to attend this event as it is one of the biggest money pools of the Mid-West.

The East

The east seems surprisingly quiet these days, considering Florida’s trend of hosting at least one event every month. But it is all set to change on July 8 when the Florida State Championship kicks off in Pompano Beach’s Isle Casino. This glamorous event will have a minimum entry fee of $230 which might go up to $5,300 for the major attraction. The vent will last till the July 29.

Central America and the Caribbean do not have any events this month and the same is true for Canada also. It is about time you sharpen and fine tune your gambling skills for an action and fun filled July.

While Brunson, who is 78 years old now, has won the main event bracelets in 1976 and 77, Chan won them in 1987 and 88. Chan’s historic victory in 88, where he bluffed his opponent to win, was also featured in the movie called “Rounders”.

Johnny Moss

Erik Seidel and Phil Ivey

Erik Seidel and the famous Phil Ivey hold 8 WSOP bracelets each. At 35 years, Ivey is considered to have the best shot at matching Hellmuth’s record in terms of the number of bracelets. He won three WSOP events in a row in 2006, but is yet to capture the main event title.

Seidel on the other hand started his career as a professional backgammon player, before he shifted his interest to poker. Although he lost to Chan in 1988, he went on to win 8 bracelets over the years since then.
