Cedar County Hosts Poker Run to Benefit Back to School Fair

In the last week of July,CedarCountywitnessed a poker run that targeted generating funds for a school fair. The run was very successful and was organized by El Dorado Springs Coalition and Cedar County Human Services Coalition. The run featured a lot of fun extras like free T-shirts for the first 50 people to register and other additional events.

Details of the poker run

The Cedar County Poker Run was organized by the Cedar County Human Services Coalition, which is an organization that aims to develop the resources for families and locals. The Coalition also sponsored the run that took place on the 28th of July. Riders started from Fugate Motors, El Dorado Springs.

Around 50 people took part in the run, which raised around $6,000 from sponsors and the contributors of the event. Prizes were given out for the best high and low hands. All proceeds from the event were paid towards the Cedar County Back to School Fair, which takes place on an annual basis. The back to school fair is also sponsored by the coalition and was held in the first week of August.

The registration was for $10 and it included one hand. For any additional hands participants were to pay $5 for each hand. And only 3 hands could be purchased per person. All participants were provided with maps and it began at 10:00 am until 1:00 pm, following which lunch was provided.

The fair took place in the El DoradoYouthCenterand gave around 130 school children necessary things they would need for the 2012 school year. The children were also given information regarding resources thatCedarCountymakes available to its residents.

Cedar County Gives thanks

A large number of local businesses helped in sponsoring the school fair and the poker run. The Human Services Coalition specially thanked Fugate Motors, Evan’s Drug, Mid Missouri Bank, El Dorado Cycle, The Phone Booth, Hospice Compassus, Garver Garage, El Dorado Springs Ministerial Alliance, Home Furnishings, West Central Missouri Community Action Agency, LCN Graphics,

They also thanked El Dorado Springs Methodist Church , Harleman Mfg, Mitchell Veterinary Clinic, LLC ,Mercy Clinic Family Medicine, United Methodist Women, Cedar County Memorial Hospital, Sonic, Rusty Jug, Sac Osage Home Health Care, Park Street Christian Church, El Dorado Mexican Restaurant & Cantina, Summer Fresh Supermarkets, Riverside Bait & Canoe, Liberty Bank and Stone Creek Lodge among several other sponsors who were involved with the events.

The grand prize for the ‘High Hand’ this year was sponsored by Fugate Motors from El Dorado Springs. The prize comprised of a Branson trip for 2, with hotel accommodation, Silver Dollar City Tickets and show tickets. The grand prize was presented by Harold Fugate, who gave it to Cody Oberly.

The ‘Low Hand’ winner was Vance Myers, who won a stay at Stone Creek Lodge. The prize was sponsored by the Lodge itself and was handed over by Cedar County Human Services Coalition’s chairperson.
